Following is a pertinent letter from our archives concerning the three phase algorithm. I have also located the New Grower stack and have included a chunk of commented code as well. Incidentally, the Hypercard stack used a map that was 97 units wide by 57 high (about 5500 cells altogether), so I presume you can adjust the 500 and 2500 cutoff points to about 10% and 50% of whatever your total mapsize is.
