This is a response to VC 21 Larry 8 ("Baby update")...

Larry:

Although fascinated by all aspects of human development, I am particularly interested in the development of language. With that in mind, I wonder: what have you noticed about Kristin's language acquisition?

While I was visiting Betsy's relatives in South Bend last weekend a strange thing happened. There were several children in the room including one infant and one little girl who was still in the babbling stage. The baby started to cry for some reason and suddenly the little girl began to imitate the baby's howl. The two of them howled back and forth and it seemed for all the world as if they were communicating. Some of the adults tried to make similar howling noises in hopes that the little girl would react, but she would have none of it. She would only imitate the sound of the baby.

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing all about Kristin's language acquisition, her babbling behavior, her first words, her first proto-sentences, the whole lot.
