This is ONE OF 2 responses to VC 31 John 11 ("Telecommuting")...

I have to say, I have very seldom really enjoyed working with others in my various office jobs. I mean, when you get right down to the work aspect of things. When I was working at a job I didn't enjoy (which was most of them), it was nice to have other people around for some social relief, but then I wasn't working. I've enjoyed getting to know some of the people I've worked with, but not enjoyed getting to know a lot of others. In social settings, at least it's a lot easier to choose the people you'd rather be with and avoid those you wouldn't.

What's wrong with telecommuting and then going out to socialize later? In Paul's case, maybe he could set up some mountain or seaside retreat to which he invited other like-minded telecommuters, and then once in a while he could socialize if he felt like it.
