As I write this, northern California is in the midst of a record-setting rainstorm that has ended a seven-year drought. Because this rain is a new experience for children born during the drought, the local paper thought it would be cute to ask first graders what they thought about rain. The one sentence response of Arthur Nasalga, age 6, struck a chord with Betsy and me:
"I like to dream that the rain chases the trees and makes them drink."
